ULTRA TRAIL FORT SAGANNE IS A DESERT RACE OF AROUND 170 KM, IN FOUR STAGES.

It's important to bear in mind that the length of the stages, the temperatures encountered and the total isolation of the area mean that this race is only suitable for well-trained runners who are prepared to cope with extreme conditions over a long period of time.

The four stages are unmarked, and each competitor must orientate himself using his own GPS, strictly following the track provided by the organizers. The track will be provided in the weeks preceding the race.

Each stage will be marked by two Check Points (CP), regardless of the length of the stage. A doctor or an emergency nurse will be on hand to deal with the most important medical problems, but each competitor must be able to deal with his or her own minor problems.

Hot and cold water and a place to rest in the shade will also be available at the CPs. During the 3rd stage, CP 2 will be fitted out to enable those who wish to do so to spend the night there.

Participants must be completely self-sufficient in terms of food during the stages and at the finish of each stage. The "midday" meal cannot be prepared by the organization for logistical reasons and due to the difference in arrival times between the first and last competitors.

Each evening, before nightfall, a hot meal will be prepared and served to participants.

Apart from the first few kilometers after the start, the route is essentially sandy, alternating between tracks, dunes and more substantial dune strips... GPS navigation is easy and straightforward throughout. 4x4 assistance vehicles will be on hand at all times to supervise and assist you if necessary.

Gaiters are highly recommended, and walking sticks can be a great help in the dunes.
